Little ol’ Me!

Hi! I’m Nina Seibert. Blackbird Ink Photography is my creative haven! I’ve been studying photography seriously for about 4 years now. I’ve made my way through some classes and have been tutored by fabulous photographers who have had lifetimes in the business. I’ve taken workshops and seminars to soak up all I can. And everything else is self-taught trial and error! I’ve always been an artist at heart and photography was a natural progression for me. I love it! I love taking pictures of my beautiful babies! I love the ironic freedom a camera gives me — 4 walls of a frame yet I get to pick whatever I’d like to put in it. I love being able to frame a moment how I choose.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree from UC Berkeley in English — most un-useful degree ever! Well, maybe not ever. I love books. I love writing. That’s about all I love about that. I love Berkeley! It didn’t really turn me into a full fledged hippie, I already had some of that going for me before I moved there. But I could walk those streets everyday and not grow tired of them.

I’m a mom to two awesome kids, a boy and a girl. They make me laugh, cry, love with more love than I thought I had, pull my hair out, shout joyfully at the top of my lungs and keep me humble. They are also, most likely, the cause of all those grays popping up on my head (60% them, 40% genetics). Ask me when I plan to have the third and I’ll most likely give you an awfully convincing murderous stare (while secretly obsessing about babies).

I’m 5 feet tall in the morning. I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I’m sort of addicted to photography apps on my iphone!

I believe that art has a place in everyone’s life. I approach my photography with an artful vision. I want each collection of photos to each stand alone as my creative brain children.

Along with all the wonderful families and children I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, I’ve also done photography work for many publications including BOHO Magazine, Girl’s Life Magazine, Seventeen Magazine and Teen Vogue. I’ve done work for local boutiques and the awesome True Birds hair accessory line and the fabulous Jeremy Gimbel. I have a secret love for fashion photography. And a new obsession with photographing rock bands and musicians.

Anyway, that’s me. I stay home and take care of my kids, force them to smile for pictures, cook lavishly tasting goodies in my outdated kitchen and patiently wait for the day my husband FINALLY finishes school! (Getting an MD and a PhD at the same time means a lot of school. A LOT.) Awesomeness. For sure.

I would love to hear from you. Either to set up a time to take some photos or to answer any questions you might have. I’m nice. Despite what my relatives may say :)
